Kitchen Activism: Jen Molica is not really That Pain in the Ass Vegan; Christy Morgan & her spiritual path towards vegan macrobiotic cooking & Blissful Bites

In today’s food-focused show, we reminisce about our favorite vegan Thanksgiving foods. We also bring you a couple of interviews from Vida Vegan Con, a vegan bloggers conference that we attended in Portland in August 2011. And, as always, we highlight and dissect news from the Vegan Frontier, let you know about vegan related happenings in and around Central Oregon, and more!

Interviews:

Jen Molica

Jen Molica

We talk with Jen Molica, of the That Pain in the Ass Vegan blog, about how she used her art degree and creative cooking skills to win a contest that sent her to VidaVeganCon, food blogging, feeding her family on a budget, and how not to be that pain in the ass vegan. As she says on her blog, “I don’t want to preachy-preach. I want to cookie-cook, and share my journey.”

As a FoodBuzz Featured Publisher, Jen’s goal is to increase traffic to her blog so she can pass monetary contributions to local charities, specifically Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard, a food pantry which has a special significance to her family and to her Bloomington, Indiana community.

We also sit down with Christy Morgan, the Blissful Chef, to hear all about her unique combination of vegan and macrobiotic cooking, beautifully demonstrated in her new cookbook, Blissful Bites: Vegan Meals That Nourish Mind, Body, and Planet.

Blissful Bites

Blissful Bites has 175 of Christy’s inventive recipes that work with seasonal produce and multiple diets (including raw and gluten-free). Veg Out ‘N About (in Central Oregon)

The Victorian Cafe has many lunch items that can be made vegan, but their specialty is breakfast. You can substitute tofu for eggs in any of the scrambles. Victorian Cafe is located at 1404 Northwest Galveston Avenue (the corner of Galveston and 14th). For more information, stop by or call 541-382-6411.

Unfortunately, The Savory Vegetarian Grill (food cart) we featured last month has had to shut down for a while. They hope to start up again soon.
